Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.

  • Hunter Biden’s DC law license should be “immediately” suspended in light of his June 11 conviction on federal gun charges, lawyer ethics regulators with the DC Office of Disciplinary Counsel said in a proposed order submitted Monday to the DC Court of Appeals. The proposed order says the president’s son’s conviction appears to constitute a “serious crime,” which necessitates a suspension as regulators determine if his crimes also constitute “moral turpitude"—a finding that could give grounds for the court to disbar him in DC. • The litigation funding group called Litigation Capital Management Limited has appointed a new chief financial officer, David Collins. He’s a former CFO of Vannin Capital, a litigation funder that was acquired by Fortress Investment Group in 2019. (Legal Funding Journal)
  • More than 60 Big Law firms and elite boutiques now recognize Juneteenth, which memorializes the end of slavery in the US, by granting employees either a half day or full day off work. The list of 61 law firms includes Ballard Spahr, Davis Wright Tremaine, Mayer Brown, Patterson Bellknap, and Sidley Austin for starters. (Above The Law)
