North Carolina Lawmakers Fight Abortion Pill Preemption Ruling

Lawmakers defending North Carolina’s restrictions on using the abortion-inducing drug mifepristone to end early-stage pregnancies are taking their case to a federal appeals court, they said.

The group, led by Speaker of the House Timothy Moore (R) and President Pro Tempore of the Senate Philip Berger (R), said Thursday it is appealing a late April decision holding that US Food and Drug Administration regulations governing the generic version of the medication take precedence over the state’s limits on its use.
