McKool Smith is giving associates mid-year bonuses of up to $30,000, as the firm rewards its lawyers who have been billing work.

Bonuses will be paid June 30 to principals, associates and senior counsel based on billable hours ranging from $2,500 up to $30,000, McKool Smith managing principal and chairman David Sochia said in a memo viewed by Bloomberg Law.

Bonus amounts are determined by monthly average billables from Oct.1, 2023 through May 31 and annualized for the fiscal year which ends Sept. 30, the memo said.

Lawyers billing less than 1,900 hours will get a bonus of $2,500. Those whose hours fall between 1,900 and 2,199 will get an extra $7,500. Lawyers who billed between 2,200 and 2,599 hours will get bonuses ranging from $10,000 to $20,000. Lawyers billing in excess of 2,600 hours will receive bonuses of $30,000.

“We know it’s been a busy 2024 and want to show our appreciation for your contribution to the firm’s continued success and the success of our clients,” the memo said.

Dallas-founded litigation firm McKool Smith’s move follows Southern California boutique Hueston Hennigan, which announced earlier this month it will hand out $10,000 to $25,000 in bonuses this summer to associates and counsel who meet billing requirements.
