The union representing about 65,000 IRS employees is waiting to hear how a looming government shutdown would impact its workers.
“You want to have the entire IRS working, period,” National Treasury Employees Union National President Doreen Greenwald told reporters Tuesday. “We’ve seen how that happens over the years where there’s not been sufficient funding and things have gone along the wayside. It led to huge backlogs, it led to slow refunds, it led to amended returns not being processed timely.”
