Hungary will continue discussions on proposed EU tax rules when it takes over the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, but made no specific commitments on rules it would seek agreements on.
Priorities would include “fighting tax evasion, ensuring legal certainty for taxpayers, and supporting the international engagement of the European Union,” the Hungarian government said in a document outlining its objectives issued Tuesday.
Hungary will replace Belgium as the chair of the Council on July 1. Belgium began its presidency on Jan. 1.
